Starting with the KIPRIDE MAX, is this just the beginning?

If you’ve spent any time running in Europe, there’s a good chance you already know KIPRUN. If you haven’t, 2026 is likely the year that changes.
At TRE, one of the most interesting conversations we had wasn’t with a legacy giant or a hype-driven newcomer — it was with KIPRUN, Decathlon’s performance running brand. KIPRUN has been around since 2008, operating in more than 70 countries, but the U.S. running scene hasn’t fully felt their impact yet.
If you’re not familiar, Decathlon in Europe is like the Dick’s Sporting Goods in the US, but with all kinds of private label brands, think REI Co-Op.
They’ve quietly built a massive presence across Europe and are now making a serious push into the U.S. market. And after seeing what they’re bringing and how intentionally they’re doing it, this is exactly the kind of “upstart” brand we love to follow.
Rather than rushing in with half-baked products and loud marketing, the launch of KIPRIDE MAX signals they’re ready to be taken seriously here.
The all-new KIPRIDE MAX (According to KIPRUN)

Outside of TRE, we haven’t actually gotten our hands, errr feet on the KIPRIDE MAX yet so we can’t confirm how amazing, or not that great they are.
But. According to the announceent …. the KIPRIDE MAX is positioned as a premium daily trainer, not built to chase PRs but for real runners looking to put in mileage while saving their legs along the way.
At the center of the shoe is SOFTECH+ which is KIPRUN’s new midsole foam, an EVA/PEBA/OBC blend delivering a full 42 mm stack height at the heel.
Trainers like the HOKA Bondi, ASICS Nimbus, Nike Invincible, and New Balance Fresh Foam More all live in the same max-cushion neighborhood.
On paper it is aggressive but not surprising with a daily trainer in 2026, but the interesting thing isnt’t the stack heights, its how KIPRUN says they put it all together.
KIPRUN didn’t just add foam; they’re highlighting they redesigned the entire underfoot system to remove harsh transitions and rigid layers. A 2 mm SCF M-TPU strobel board and 5 mm SCF M-TPU insole sit between the foot and the midsole, creating a seamless, ultra-soft platform that should feel plush without being dead.
In lab testing, KIPRUN reports roughly 34% more cushioning, 25% greater energy return, 6% lighter weight, despite the increased stack, compared to their previous model
Call us intrigued because these combinations of more cushioning, more rebound, and less weight is not easy to pull off, especially in a daily trainer. We typically see something give.
Fit, Upper, and Stability
The upper sticks firmly to KIPRUN’s comfort-first philosophy, but there’s a restraint here that’s worth calling out. Instead of layering in rigid elements or flashy structures, they use an engineered warp-knit upper made with 98% recycled PET, paired with targeted stretch zones in the forefoot that acknowledge a simple truth many brands still ignore: feet swell on long runs. The 360-degree collar and 3D-knit tongue aim to disappear once you’re moving, reducing pressure points without relying on stiffness or overbuilt padding.
Where this gets interesting is stability. Rather than leaning on hard plastic, guidance rails, or aggressive geometry, KIPRUN uses subtle internal structure to do the work quietly. Integrated midfoot wings connect directly into the lacing system, creating wrap and security only when you need it. A minimalist internal heel counter and generously cushioned collar provide rearfoot confidence without that locked-in, overcorrected feeling that can fatigue you over longer distances.
This “support without interference” approach is something we’re seeing more brands chase, but few execute cleanly — especially at this weight and price point.
At 271 g for men and 226 g for women, with a 6 mm drop, the KIPRIDE MAX lands squarely in the max-cushion daily trainer category while avoiding the bulky, overbuilt feel that often comes with it. To put the weight into perspective, that is impressively light for a shoe sitting at a 42 mm stack height. Many popular max-cushion trainers — like the HOKA Bondi (297 g), ASICS Nimbus (305 g), or New Balance Fresh Foam More (306 g) — regularly push well past 300 g in men’s sizing,
Will People Jump In?
What makes KIPRUN interesting isn’t just this trainer, it’s the future.
The brand is openly designing for everyday runners, not just elites or early adopters, while still checking the boxes that serious athletes care about. That said, shoes are deeply personal. Fit, feel, and trust are earned over miles, not a flashy marketing campaign.
The KIPRIDE MAX launches at $160, which puts it squarely in line with a long list of well-known premium daily trainers from brands U.S. runners already know and love.
That’s where our real question lives – will runners be willing to step away from familiar names and tried-and-true models to give KIPRUN a shot?
There’s no pricing advantage to lure people in — the value has to be felt on foot.
KIPRUN is a Brand to Keep an Eye On in 2026
We love brands that arrive with patience, and confidence.
In speaking with KIPRUN, I didn’t walk away feeling like they’re a flash-in-the-pan chasing U.S. attention but instead they’re passion was clear, they feel like they’re at the early stages of a longer play.
On did it, so why not them?
With the KIPRIDE MAX introducing a new premium daily running franchise and additional models already in the pipeline, this is a brand we’re excited to test, run in, and report on as more announcements roll out through 2026.
If you care about comfort, thoughtful engineering, and brands that prioritize runners, keep KIPRUN on your radar.
If you see them at your local run retailer; ask questions and try on a pair.
We will.
