We’re still trying to completely understand all the KIPRUN product lines, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that on paper, their latest competes with the best from ASICS and Nike.
The all-new KIPSTORM ELITE is KIPRUN’s latest racing shoe designed specifically for the marathon.

The highlights? Lighter weight, improved energy return, and attention to comfort, which is something a lot of super shoes still struggle with. Most times they can do 1 or 2 of things well but to achieve all 3 is the secret sauce.
What’s Exciting
At 216g (men’s 9), the KIPSTORM ELITE lands squarely in modern super shoe territory. For comparison, the Kings of the super shoe class weigh in at:
Nike Alphafly 3: ~218–220g
ASICS Metaspeed Sky/Edge Paris: ~205–215g
On Cloudboom Strike: ~201g – 219g
In other words, the KIPSTORM ELITE is right there in the mix.
But weight is only part of the story.
KIPRUN claims a +13% improvement in dynamism over its previous racer, while also improving softness and energy return in the midsole. That’s paired with a redesigned carbon plate, built to reduce energy loss through the forefoot and help runners maintain efficiency late in the race.
But looking deeper, what stands out most from this announcement is how intentionally marathon-specific this shoe is. KIPRUN talks about the dual-density midsole, optimized heel geometry, and a seamless 3D knit upper which are all aimed at keeping the ride smooth and stable, even if you’re falling apart.
KIPRUN also doesn’t appear to sacrifice comfort in the name of speed noting the fit is snug but not aggressive and the upper is designed to avoid pressure points and hotspots.
That balance matters for runners who want to race hard without sacrificing their feet to PR.

Our Take
The KIPSTORM ELITE isn’t trying to reinvent the super shoe and that’s a good thing because super shoes don’t need to be reinvented. Instead, it feels like KIPRUN is refining what actually works and worked with marathoners and elite runners on what matters most: efficiency, comfort, and durability over 26.2 miles.
We haven’t tested these yet so everything should be taken at face value but like we highlighted weeks back, KIPRUN is making a case for your feet in 2026.
