Wildfires across the West have other plans for Anthony’s peak week as smoke pushes air quality into the red, and suddenly the biggest training block of his buildup to the Rut Run 50K is looking a lot different than expected.
The long run he’s been building toward for weeks? Moved indoors.
So Anthony spends four hours on the treadmill, alternating with box step-overs to try to mimic what The Rut is going to demand from him in the mountains.
Later in the week, the smoke finally clears and Anthony gets his shot at the longest run of the entire training block. It’s a massive day, and one that could either build confidence or leave him wondering if his body (and knees) is ready for 50 kilometers through the Madison Range.
Join along and hear from Anthony as he pushes through weather, the terrain, the fatigue, and his honest thoughts on how ready is he?
Anthony’s learning that adaptability might be just as important as fitness when you’re chasing your first ultra. The countdown to Big Sky continues.
