Salomon’s Aero Blaze 4 Makes Us Rethink Our Daily Rotation

The new daily-trainer delivers on cushy, low-fatigue miles, but how will the foam hold up?

When I think Salomon, we think trails and winter.

So when the brand said it’s got a road trainer worth our daily rotation, forgive us for raising an eyebrow.

The Aero Blaze 4 is here to change that.

The fourth version of Salomon’s everyday road shoe leans into what it does best. With an updated optiFOAM² midsole tuned for a livelier rebound, the 4 is built for soft landings that make the daily mileage slog feel less like a grind and keep your legs feeling lively.

Salomon paired that with reverseCAMBER geometry; yes, borrowed straight from their ski background to have a curved midsole shape designed to smooth out your heel-to-toe transition so you’re not fighting your stride late in a run when all it wants to do is fall apart.

Up top, a new engineered mesh upper varies its structure across the foot, and breathability gets a boost for the warmer runs we’re currently doing. Also added is a lightly cushioned tongue that keeps the step-in feel comfortable without tacking on extra weight.

Underneath, a road-specific contaGRIP® outsole handles wet and dry asphalt, with zoning that trims material in low-wear zones to keep the shoe light while reinforcing where it counts.

Our Experience (So Far)

This is our first time in a Salomon road trainer, and it’s already changing how we think about the brand’s offerings. The cushioning is nice and soft enough for easy days, and responsive enough that you’re not shuffling through the miles.

We’ve also noticed our legs feel fresher the next day in these compared to the On Cloudmonster 3. That’s less residual fatigue after similar mileage, which says something about how well that optiFOAM² midsole is absorbing impact.

Long-term durability is still an open question as we haven’t put enough miles on them to know how the foam holds up over time. But for casual, easy-paced aerobic runs, think a relaxed 9-minute-mile effort, the Aero Blaze 4 has been genuinely nice to run in.

More as we test these over the coming weeks and months.
