Swiss sportswear brand On presents the global campaign for the next generation of its Cloudboom franchise. Born from the innovation at the heart of the groundbreaking Lightspray Cloudboom Strike 2 and Cloudboom Strike 2 shoes, the campaign captures a simple but powerful truth – at the 22-mile mark on race day, fast is not something you can quantify, it’s a feeling.
Fronted by world champion runner Hellen Obiri, the campaign marks the first global expression of On’s new Run On Clouds brand platform, signaling a shift away from performance marketing rooted in metrics, towards one centered on human feeling.
Forming the centerpiece of the campaign is a film shot in Boulder, Colorado, which alternates between Hellen’s daily training routes and the On Athletics Club (OAC) gym. Led by director Parker Schmidt at CANADA, with accompanying stills by Joanna Wzorek, the visuals invoke a deeply personal connection to one of marathon racing’s most accomplished athletes – seeking to capture what fast feels to her, in order to inspire others to race for that feeling.
The decision to frame fast as a feeling in this way was inspired by Hellen herself whose response when asked whether she looked at her watch to see how fast she was going while breaking the course record in New York City, was simply: “No, I just felt it.”
“For decades, the running category has been marketed through the lens of data, specs and split times,” says Laura Bevan, Head of Brand, Running at On. “With Race for the Feeling, we wanted to tell a different story. Inspired by Hellen herself, the campaign explores the emotional side of performance and captures what fast actually feels like when you’re racing at your limit. As the first global expression of our new Run on Clouds platform, it reflects a broader creative direction for On: one that celebrates the human experience of running as much as the performance behind it.”
“Every creative decision – from Hellen’s voiceover and the soundtrack to the cinematography and production design – was made to immerse people in the feeling of fast,” says Mico Toledo, Head of Creative, Performance at On. “Our ambition was to create something that feels as visceral and instinctive as racing itself, drawing viewers into Hellen’s experience and translating the emotional intensity of elite performance into a story that resonates with every runner.”
Spotlighted within the campaign is the brand’s marathon-winning Cloudboom franchise. First worn by Hellen as she shattered her PB in London, the LightSpray Cloudboom Strike 2 and the Cloudboom Strike 2, are both engineered to provide a unique fresh-leg advantage deep into any race.
The Cloudboom Lighstrike 2 campaign arrives on July 30. Both the Cloudboom Strike 2 and the LightSpray Cloudboom Strike 2 launch on 30th July – they are available from on.com and select premium retail partners.
