We’ve all done it. You finish a long swim have to get to the office and all of a sudden, you’ve got a wet wetsuit, swimsuit, and gear shoved into a plastic grocery bag and you’re high tailing it to the office praying it doesn’t leak all over your laptop in the front seat. It’s not great. And apparently ROKA Multisport got tired of watching us do it, because they just launched a bag they hope ends the stress for good.

Meet the SG1: a 27L backpack with a built-in waterproof compartment, designed for the actual shape of what a training day looks like — pool, gym, office, home, repeat.

More than a Race Bag

ROKA already makes the T1X, its modular transition pack built for race, travel, and brick days. SG1 isn’t trying to replace it but instead wants this bag to be for every day use that isn’t a transition bag by definition. It has the same DNA, with a simpler interior, but is sized for the daily shuffle instead of a full gear-and-nutrition setup.

“If the T1X is the pack you grab on race, travel and brick days, the SG1 is the one you grab every other morning,” said ROKA founder and CEO Kurt Spenser. “Together, they’re an unbeatable pair.”

And that’s a clean way to think about it: T1X for big race days, and SG1 is for all the ordinary ones.

Features That Matter

The integrated waterproof compartment is the whole pitch. Wet gear goes in one compartment, gets zipped away, and stays away from your laptop, clothes, and everything else riding in the main pack. And when it’s not holding wet gear, the compartment has a handle so you can flip it inside out to dry, instead of it turning into a mildew mess.

Everything else on the SG1 is borrowed straight from the T1X, which is perfect given that bag is legit.

Our Take

Full disclosure because it should be said. ROKA is sending us the SG1 and we’ll do our best to see just how much it can hold. But for now, we’re going off launch photos here, not hands-on time, so we can’t speak yet to how the compartment actually holds up wet, or if the zippers can, well zip. So take the following as a first impression, not a review.

But we appreciate the category ROKA is chasing here, it is a bag for people who train and then have to be a functioning human at work an hour later. It’s an underutilized space. Most “gym bags” treat wet gear as an afterthought, and most technical packs are overbuilt for people who just need something more simple. SG1 is a bet that the daily-use case deserves the same engineering as race day, just in a smaller, simpler package.

On size. That is what we’re most curious about, especially for the price. At 27L, is that enough to fit all your gear, clothing, wetsuit, a bottle, my laptop, lunch, and snacks without a fight? Because we’ll say it. We’ve carried a TYR Alliance 45L for years, and for us, bigger has always been better. But we’ve also never had a desire to take the TYR bag to the office, either. SG1 is clearly optimizing for “easy to carry” over “fits everything,” which is a fair trade for a lot of athletes, especially when it looks as good as it does.

Which brings us to looks. This is a genuinely good-looking bag with clean lines, and no busy branding.

I love minimalism and it reads less like “training bag” and more like a Moment camera bag: the kind of pack you’d see strapped to a tech worker’s back as they scooter into the office in San Francisco.

If ROKA was going for “performance gear that doesn’t look like performance gear,” they nailed it.
